Shizuka Mitsui Spark Joy Maniac Goes World Tour
GALLERY SIDE 2 is proud to present a 4th solo exhibition of Shizuka Mitsui (b.1984) , a painter who also paints vases and pots. In 2014 at Opera City Art Gallery’s project room, she has presented an dreamy landscape consisting of decorative motif and women figures that are painted on cotton. Having a daugter in 2015, her subjects started to include everyday life materials such as food, toys and family. In the recent years, many of her works are inspired by her grandfather’s life who came to Japan, a first generation Korean, as a trading merchant. Mistui recalls the strange objects in her household and recreates them from her memories. In her work, The contemporary pop images are juxtaposed with the fragments of traditional culture, creating an uncanny sense of time. The exhibition will consist of paintings, vases encrusted with ceramic details, Korean furnitures, and kitchenwares.
